How it works

The purpose of the Income Protection Plan is simple – to provide you with an income if you are no longer able to work. You can receive a payout in one of three different ways:

- a regular monthly benefit if you are unable to work due to incapacity or if you are medically retired on physical grounds
- a lump sum benefit if you gain alternative employment during medical retirement
- a lump sum benefit if you are diagnosed with a critical illness

1

Get a personalised quote

Tell us your pensionable pay, smoking status and a few health details. We will provide a personalised quote showing exactly what you will be covered for and how much it will cost.

2

Start with 3 months free

Once accepted, your cover begins straight away, with your first three months' premiums completely free. You can pay by salary deduction (if available for your force) or by direct debit. Premiums will increase or decrease in line with your pensionable salary, so your cover always stays in step with your earnings.

3

Cover in place should you need it

If you are unable to work due to illness or injury and move to half pay or no pay, you can make a claim for a regular monthly benefit. If you are medically retired on physical grounds, diagnosed with a specified critical illness, or gain alternative employment following medical retirement, you may also be eligible to receive a lump sum benefit.
